Layne, Daniel and I decided that today would be the day that Daniel took his first dip in the ocean. What a lucky guy--I was 6 years old the first time I saw the ocean, and it was on a gray Atlantic day during a winter trip to Disney World. Dan got a beautiful Hawaiian spring day, with blue skies and puffy white clouds and turquoise water.
Lanikai Beach, consistently ranked one of the top beaches in the world:

The water was pretty warm, but maybe a little chilly for someone who has only known fairly warm bath water his whole life. So Dan voiced his displeasure at the temperature early on, but quickly got over it. I've found that all I have to do is start singing "Baby Beluga" and he will usually come down off the ledge. So I sang and we floated and he was okay with the whole situation. Dan'll be our little water baby before we know it!

I'm kind of obsessed with limiting his sun exposure because he already looks like he has a tan. I think he just has my coloring, but he does look pretty dark compared to most other haole (white) babies:

He was asleep in the car before I'd even gone one mile:
