Temecula Berry Patch

Last Sunday, Lauren and I took the kids to Temecula (about 20 miles north of us) to pick blueberries. When we went blueberry picking in North Carolina two years ago, it was a cool day and the blueberry patch was nice and shady.  Not this time!  The sun was beating down and there was definitely no shade to be seen.  Still, I think Dan and Ben could have stayed out there for a couple of hours.  They loved discovering the biggest and bluest blueberries, hidden in the leaves.  Hannah was not so thrilled, probably because she was stuck in her stroller most of the time.

We ended up with 3 1/2 pints of blueberries and Lauren made a delicious rustic blueberry pie that night.  The berries were really good, very sweet and juicy.  It was a successful day of picking!

Post-nap activities

Pretty much every afternoon, after naps, Dan and I play around with Hannah in her room until Ben wakes up.  We do a little wrestling, a little jumping off the changing table into her chair, some reading, and general noodling.  On this particular afternoon, Dan and Ben gathered up all the spare pillows and blankets from upstairs and made a fort in her crib.  Hannah was not a fan of that.  Aaah, the ways we entertain ourselves without a TV....

Nice little weekend

We did indeed have a nice little weekend.  The boys' school just opened a 1-mile dirt/mulch path around the grounds, so the running club held a 5K to christen it.  Well, we didn't run the 5K, but Dan and Ben did the toddler trot and the obstacle course.  (My plans for hitting Target right after were foiled after part of the obstacle course involved water.  Lots and lots of water.)  They each got a medal and were pretty proud of themselves.

On Saturday afternoon, we headed into San Diego for a friend's daughter's birthday party.  All the kids had a good time, but I was too stressed out by watching all three of them and not really knowing anyone there.  Lesson learned--kids' birthday parties as a single parent are even less fun than normal!

For Mother's Day, we pretty much did our normal Sunday routine of church--lunch--nap--swim.  Why mess with what works?  Lauren and Jesse came over in the afternoon, so I got to run to Target by myself.  That was my best present ever!  Then they treated us to Thai food, which was also great.  Like I said, it was a nice little weekend!

Photos by Dan

Dan really loves to grab my camera off the shelf, put the strap around his neck, and take pictures of all of us.  So since I've been slacking in the photo department, enjoy a few shots compliments of Dan:
